What is IPL Hair Removal?

LPI Hair Removal is a popular technique for hair removal because it’s relatively painless and is effective in removing unwanted hair. IPL is a light therapy that stimulates hair follicles by emitting light energy into the skin. The light energy is converted into heat, which damages hair follicles and kills the hair. The most common type of IPL device is a laser hair removal device that uses light pulses to target particular areas, such as underarms, legs, face, chest, back, and bikini lines.

How does it work?

A handheld flashgun is passed across the skin to target melanin. The light penetrates the skin until it reaches the hair root/bulb. This is where the highest concentration of melanin is located. As the light is absorbed, the bulb and the hair heat up. This heats the follicles, which destroys your hair.

Why is it better than other forms of hair removal?

Shaving takes an excessive amount of time, and the hair grows back quickly. Shaving becomes part of your routine if you shave daily because you’d like to have a constant hairless body. Shaving isn’t without its negatives, though. You’ll get nicks or rashes at some point, but they’re far less common than when you start out.

How long does it take?

Here are some details about the different treatments that are available. Bikini lines take around 15 minutes, and legs take a bit less at 45 minutes.

Does it hurt?

The typical pain associated with this procedure is a light tap on the skin and can also be felt like a clicking sensation with an elastic band. The pain level is usually higher in the first treatment but lessens as less hair grows back. Therefore, IPL can be seen as a less painful hair removal treatment than laser hair removal.

How long does it take to see results?

It depends on the area you want to remove hair and its thickness and color. During the treatment, hairs tend to shrivel. However, within one to two weeks after treatment, the hairs will start shedding – which means results are more precise in some more sensitive areas, such as fuzzy underarm patches, than on other parts of the skin. Once the hair has been shaved off and starts to grow back, the result will be visible immediately. However, you may see a few patches that are still noticeable after several sessions.

Is it safe?

IPL is almost 20 years old, and there have been no reported studies of safety issues. Unlike sun tanning, it does not contain UVA or UVB light rays associated with increased skin cancer. There can’t be any ultraviolet light in IPL, so it has to be safe.

Do they get rid of hair permanently?

This depends on the person and the area involved. For most people, 2-5 sessions are enough to remove hair from a given site. But for some others, around ten sessions may be necessary. IPL destroys hair follicles to cause them to wither, so it can’t remove all hair in one treatment. However, other treatments that don’t target follicles and therefore don’t cause permanent balding are often more effective. You may not shed 100% of your body hair, but you’ll lose 90%.

What should I do before my treatment?

We ask that you shave the designated area on the day of or the day before your treatment so we can target your hair follicle and not get the hairs that are already there.

What should I do after my treatment?

Avoid excessive sun exposure and use sunscreen. Any hair growth between sessions should be shaved, not waxed or threaded. After your time at the salon, avoid perfumes, deodorant, and hot showers.
