What is a threads lift?
How does a thread lift work?
The thread lift procedure works in two ways.
Threading thin and dissolvable string under the skin, your doctor can make it tight. They’re used by pulling your skin on the forehead, neck, or torso.
The barbs on the thread ensure that the line grips your skin and underlying tissue as you pull it tight.
Threads left underneath the skin follow your body’s natural healing response & stimulates collagen production. It doesn’t matter that the threads do not injure you; they can still stimulate the healing process. In addition, collagen can provide bulk in the skin to fill any wrinkles and gaps (caused by sagging) and restore a youthful appearance.
Thread lift procedure
The technique for a thread lift is slightly different depending on where you’re getting it done and your provider’s preferences. However, the basic technique is approximately the same.
- You will be asked to recline in the room where your procedure is performed, with alcohol applied to your skin. A topical anesthetic will also be used as the area is prepped for surgery.
- Threads are pushed under the skin with a thin needle or cannula. The procedure takes 30 to 45 minutes.
- After the threads are inserted, the method will be picked up. You may feel light pressure or a slight tightness under your skin.
- Removing the needles and string will end the procedure quickly, and you’ll be free to go home or back to work.
Targeted areas for a thread lift
Regarding sagging facial skin, thread lifts are typically what people choose. They can help tighten the area and offer a natural look.
- jowls and jawline
- brow line
- under-eye area
- forehead
- cheeks
Thread lifts also provide the rejuvenating effect of lifting and tightening breasts, especially after pregnancy or weight loss has caused sagging.
Are there any risks or side effects?
A thread lift is considered low-risk with minimum recovery time, but there are side effects and a risk of complications.
Common side effects of a thread lift include:
- bruising
- swelling
- bleeding
- slight pain at the site of the thread injection
There’s a 15 to 20% chance of complications that can easily be fixed.
Complications to look out for include:
- allergic reaction to ingredients in the threading material
- bleeding as a result of the procedure building up behind your skin
- visible dimpling or pulling where the threads have been inserted
- migration or unintended “movement” of the lines that result in skin that looks lumpy or bulges
- pain under your skin as a result of the thread being too “tight” or awkwardly placed
- infection at the site of the procedure
A thread lift is a cosmetic procedure often used to lift sagging skin around the mouth or eyes. One risk associated with thread lifts is an infection, which can appear over time and should be treated immediately.
- green, black, brown, or red discharge at the site of your procedure
- swelling for more than 48 hours
- persistent headaches
- fever
Any complications you may be experiencing lately should be taken back to the surgeon and discussed in greater detail.
Some people are not happy with the results of their surgery. Please speak to your doctor and ensure they’re qualified before getting this treatment!
What to expect after a thread lift
Recovery after a thread lift is pretty minimal. You might experience some swelling and bruising, but you can go back to work right away if you’d like
You should notice a reduction in swelling and bruising right after inserting your threads, but it may take more than a few days for the real benefits of treatment to show.
It’s not meant to be permanent. Successful effects typically last from 1 to 3 years. Like other dissolvable dermal fillers, such as Botox, the threads used in the procedure will eventually be absorbed by the tissue underneath
After a thread lifts, you can get back to your usual pursuits. However, your provider will advise you not to excessively rub your face and sleep on one side in the early days after the procedure.
